Written work is either:
a 150 word summary about some visual data (Advanced track). There is a formula for how this should be written and examples under the Advanced track section of this site. Model answers are also available under the same section and on other sites in the Resources section. This site includes corrections I have done for my own students. You do not have to provide anything like this detail. My aim with was also to share typical answers, with mistakes and corrections, more widely so that students without tutors can learn from them. There is a second part to the Advanced test, which is an essay, but we are focusing on part I for now.
a 150 word letter (General track). In time, I will add a formula for writing this, but any feedback on the letter that volunteers can given to students would be useful at this stage. As for the Advanced track, there is also an essay for Part II but again we are focusing on the letter just now.
The IELTS speaking test is the same way for General and Advanced tracks. (Some examples). In essence, the student sends an audio file of up to four minutes talking about familiar topic. The actual test is divided into three parts and takes a total of 11-14 minutes. Students can send you audio files relating to part I or part II. We are not addressing part III at present. In Part I students talk for 4-5 minutes about familiar topics such as home and family, studies or interests. This is normally a Q&A session but the proposal for now is for the student to send a file in which they talk about these topics as a monologue. This echoes part II, which is a monologue, where the student is given a topic to prepare for 1-2 minutes and then must talk about it for 2 minutes. There are links to sample topics for part 1 and part II here.
In time, you may feel able to give feedback based on IETS assessment criteria.
Again, this is not necessary. Currently, I myself am fully occupied with this resource and marking work and do not yet do this. The main aim is for Afghan women without any current support to send work for feedback from native English speakers.
